21-year-old member of the Team Top Five clinched his first ever victory in the main draw of Grand Slams tournament.

Daniil Medvedev knocked out fifth seed Stan Wawrinka on the Centre Court of Wimbledon on Monday: 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

“First of all, it’s my first Grand Slam win. So even if I didn’t beat Stan, it would be one of the biggest wins in my life,” said Medvedev. “I have no words to describe this. I guess this memory will be with me forever. “It’s a very strange feeling to go out there. It’s like you have a fear, you’re tight, but you want to show your best. You want to [beat] Stan Wawrinka on Centre Court so that people can know more about you. It was just something special. I don’t know how to explain it.”

Grass court season this year has been very successful for the young Russian. Medvedev reached one semifinal on ATP World Tour (Eastbourne) and two quarterfinals (’s-Hertogenbosch and London). On Monday Daniil also set his career-high in the ATP rankings, reaching the Top 50 (No. 49) for the first time in his career.
