Daniil Medvedev wins his maiden ATP title

Medvedev, News

An incredible week for our player in Sydney! The 21-year old Russian Daniil Medvedev began the ATP-250 tournament in qualification eventually claiming the first title of his career. Daniil defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber (World No. 29), Jared Donaldson (World No. 55), Paolo Lorenzi (World No. 45) and Fabio Fognini (World No. 27) on his way to the final. The decisive match between Medvedev and the Australian Alex de Minaur appeared to be the “youngest” in the tour during the last 10 years. Fortunately, Medvedev celebrated the victory: 1-6 6-4 7-5. It was the second ATP final for Daniil in his career. Last year he lost to the Spaniard Roberto Bautista-Agut in the final of Chennai.

Medvedev begins the new week being No. 53 of the updated ATP ranking (while his personal best is 48). His next tournament is the first Grand Slam tournament of the season Australian Open. Daniils’s first opponent is the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis.
