Elina Svitolina wins first-ever olympic tennis medal for Ukraine

History in Tokyo as World No.6 & Top Five Management athlete Elina Svitolina has won the Olympic bronze medal in the women’s singles event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics! This medal is the first-ever Olympic tennis medal for Ukraine.

World No. 6 came back from a set down to defeat Elena Rybakina in three sets to bring the bronze medal home. Playing in her second Olympics after Rio in 2016, Svitolina’s trademark grit and determination was the story of her bronze medal run. She won 4 of her 6 matches in a deciding set, with over 13 hours spent on court in total. Svitolina defeated Laura Siegemund in the 1st round, Ajla Tomljanovic in the 2nd, Maria Sakkari in the 3rd, and Camila Giorgi in the quarterfinals, before losing in the semifinals to Marketa Vondrousova. Against Rybakina, Svitolina battled for 2 hours and 24 minutes and waited match point No. 7 to finally call the game.
